Numatix 5-Axis
True 5-Axis machining creates a great challenge. This challenge is that the profile being cut requires a tremendous amount of points to be true to the accuracy of the part. Most CNC controls today cannot digest these large amounts of points efficiently, thus causing the machine to slow down tremendously while losing accuracy. The Numatix CNC Control overcomes this challenge with ease.
The following demonstration displays a 5-axis CNC machine that is over 20 years old. This machine was designed primarily for the watch making industry and is located at a technical institution that is world renown for 5-axis machining. The technical institute is located in Grenchen, Switzerland, the world “capital” of watches.
The original CNC control was removed from the machine and a Numatix CNC Control was installed, using the existing motors and drives. The part that was cut was designed on IBM/Dasough Cad/Cam. The program feed was 10000 mm/min (400 IPM). The critical area in the cut is the leading edge of the profile. As you can witness in the video, the machine (with the Numatix control) hardly slows down around this area, even though it is computing thousands of points. The engraving performed in this area is smooth and precise. |
